Hélène Cixous, On writing /Hélène Cixous, acerca de la escritura

When I write a book, the only thing that guides me at the beginning is an alarm (...) The thing that alarmed me at once with its violence and with its strangeness. Then there comes the aid of writing. It is as if I tried to make a verbal portrait of this phenomenon that is concrete, and physical and spiritual. What do I do? I listen to this phenomenon, I listen to it with my eyes, with organs I do not know, that are in me. And then the activity of writing tries to transpose what I perceive. It is here that the corrections will intervene: at times, I have the feeling I am understanding something in flashes, in dazzles; and since it goes extremely quickly, always, since the moments of revelation are moments that light up and go out, I note at full speed, telegraphically, on bits of paper, what I have just understood and which, right away, will disappear. And this will give me a support to move forward. But I begin to go deeper, that is to paint the picture of the tears, it can happen that I feel I have not painted right; that I feel I do not recognize, in what was just written, the vibration, the truth, the music of the thing I have glimpsed.
