Argentine poet Juanele Ortiz on poetry and music / Juanele, sobre la poesía y la música

We mustn't forget that I also have something of symbolism in the musical sense, but not music itself, let's say, what can be music to one's ears in a literal sense, but that other music, that thing that lies beyond music, as Debussy himself says in his own music, which is not an evocation of silence but the suggestion that something is germinating and will blossom and cannot be defined. In other words, the process of becoming, that is, time rather than those moments of eternity where one can feel like a vertex, something painful, even if it is the pain of ecstasy, more than that – something that surpasses, that transcends those moments and might be called time. Like Oriental composers, who say that music is what most resembles life because it is flow, that's why there are no dominant notes, nor a melodic sense, nor scales in the same way we talk of scales. Almost like birds. Rhymes and those other instituted things like meter or syllabic measure, I don't think they are appropriate. Rhythm that cannot be defined by the number of syllables, that is the rhythm of what is being said. Each remark, let us call it phrase or remark or line, if you will, has its own rhythm because there is something that has made it happen that way, something that keeps going and does not stop at the syllable; it leaves the syllable behind without freeing itself from the music...
